Born into one of the leading Mob families in Chicago, Aria Scuderi struggles to find her own path in a world where no choices are given. Aria was only fifteen when her parents betrothed her to Luca – The Vice – Vitiello, the oldest son of the head of the New York Cosa Nostra to ensure peace between the two families.
Now with eighteen, the day Aria has been dreading for years is looming dangerously: her wedding to Luca.
Aria is terrified of marrying a man she hardly knows, especially someone like Luca who got his nickname ‘the Vice’ for crushing a man’s throat with his bare hands. Luca might be one of the most sought after men in New York thanks to his good looks, wealth and predator-like charisma that radiates power, but the society girls throwing themselves at him don’t know what Aria does: that the bad boy aura isn’t just a game; blood and death lurk beneath Luca’s striking gray eyes and arrogant smile.
In her world a handsome exterior often hides the monster within; a monster who can just as easily kill as kiss you.
The only way to escape the marriage to Luca would be to run away and leave everything she’s ever known behind but Aria can’t bear the thought of never seeing her family again.
Despite her fear, she decides to go through with the marriage; Aria has grown up among predators like Luca and knows that even most cold-hearted bastards have a heart and she has every intention of working her way into Luca’s.

I’m terribly sorry for my unexplainable disappearance. Life got in the way…as usual. and now, with moving to a new different county in a whole different continent, my new current job and the darn reading slump (more than 5 months, can you believe this?) it’s just too much for me to keep up with. Anyways…let’s get started shall we?

This book series deserves more than a mere 5 star rating (at least, to me) I’m deeply and utterly in love…words can’t describe how much i love it. My favorite is Bound By Hatred.

I’ve read these books about years ago, so i’ll try and keep my review summarized and brief.

If you’re not aware of my love for mafia stories, now is the time lol. Cora Reilly is one of my favorite mafia authors. She is good at creating enough tension to keep the pages flipping (Although Bound by Vengeance did disappoint me…that was not what I was expecting).
Each of the books in this series are stand-alones, so they can be read separately, but you should start your read from the first book because the characters do make appearances in the rest of the other books. Each book is about two people, a couple forced to marry because of traditional mafia ways.  I like how each character is opposite to the other.

‘Being born into our world meant being born with blood on your hands. With every breath we took, sin was engraved deeper into our skin. Born in blood. Sworn in blood.’

I, Ethan Antonio Giovanni Callahan, first son of the former head of the Irish mob, Liam Alec Callahan, and former head of the Italian mafia, ex-governor, Melody Nicci Giovanni Callahan, solemnly swear to ruthlessly protect our family name, business and way of life, no matter the cost to me or anyone else. I shall show no mercy; I shall offer no forgiveness; there will be no peace for those who stand against me.

I will live for my family.
I will kill for my family.
I will marry for my family.

I, Ivy O’Davoren, the only daughter of Shay O’Davoren, solemnly swear to ruthlessly and mercilessly exact revenge on the Callahans and all those who betrayed my father and family.

I will live for revenge.
I will kill for revenge.
I will marry for revenge.

You devoured the Ruthless People series. Now it’s time to revel in the reign of the Callahan children…

Hello, hello!
I’m so excited for today’s review! couldn’t wait, I wrote it as soon as I finished the book 🙂

Children of Vice is the first in the series spin-off from the Ruthless People series, and Holy moly!! this series is a whole new level, it deserves WHOLE 5 STARS!!

I’ve fallen in love with JJ McAvoy‘s style of writing and her books, they made me feel hundred of things all at emotions were all over the place; It IS that good, yes!

This book is told from multiple POVs; It is about Ethan Callahan (Liam and Melody’s first-born) who’s now a Ceann na Conairte.

“If it means protecting this family’s name and legacy, I’d set myself on fire.” I felt my whole body tensing as I spoke. “I will not be the son who inherited the kingdom only to let it crumble at my feet. That is not my fate.”

Ethan is so cold. I disliked that in the beginning but understood why, the more I kept on reading i ended up sorta loving it. He is a calculated, Methodical, sharp-eyed, intense and  absolutely ruthless.

Ivy O’Davoren has been set up and served SEVEN years in prison for a crime she did not commit. She blamed the Callahan’s for her parents’ death until she learned the truth..knowing she was blaming the wrong people all along. She’s ruthless but with a softer side. She has a quirky side and she’s perfect for Ethan! They complimented each other. And of course Liam and Melody are still the most ruthless of them all… There is no denying (There’s going to be a little surprise from them, keep your eyes open 😉 )

Donatella/Dona, Another character I come to love. She’s so much like her mother Melody, fearless and power-hungry. I am VERY ready for her book!! All i can say for now is WELL PLAYED..WELL EFFING PLAYED

There is a huge turning point half through in the story, which really changes Ethan & Ivy’s relationship to the better (some facts revealed, and flashbacks from the Ruthless People are clicking together).

I surely ddon’t agree with everything in this story but I must say, it was one hell of an entertainment and I loved every second of it. Worth it!!

The cliffhanger at the end is driving me nuts, I SO need to read the next book, it’s going to be LIT!!

Have you read the “Ruthless People” series? (you don’t have to read them in order to read this current one I just reviewed) What are your thoughts?

If you love mafia romances, with a fearless heroine, then this book is what you’ve been searching for.

Happy reading!

To the outside world, they look like American royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, and rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two bosses, cultures, and hearts.

Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago and follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan – rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Theirs is an arranged marriage with the goal of ending years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam assumes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need…he’ll soon find out that his wife to be does not fit that mold.

Melody knows exactly what type of man Liam is and would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life earning.

The mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for their family, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way.

Check out more thrilling titles in the Ruthless People series:

“You don’t find love; it finds you.”

Hello!! Ruthless People in da houuuse

A FREAKING ROLLERCOASTER, but a PERFECT one (you’ve been warned)

This book series messed with my emotions!! I’m not even kidding, I found it hard to function once i was finished.  I’ve been hangover (from reading books, of course) but, never to this extent that my mind is occupied day and night with the characters. MY BREATH HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY, HELP!!!!

Look at how far Melody has gotten into between the first and the last book. who knew she’d go from this “cold” person to be the caring, loving women that would give her life for her family?

“It had taken a lot of blood, sweat, and no tears to make sure that they, and everyone else, knew that I was the Boss. I may be pretty, I may be young, but I was a Giovanni. Giovannis were–and always would be–beautiful, but lethal when crossed.”

I’m not much of a crier, but I’ve got to admit I had tears in my eyes by the 4th book (A bloody Kingdom)…what an effing plot twist..i refused for it to end that way, and thankfully it hasn’t. I was NOT disappointed.

For characters; Liam Alec Callahan has become one of my many book boyfriends (I’ll be doomed once Melody discovers this. RIP me)

Melody Nicci Giovanni Callahan The most badass female character I have ever read!! hands down.

This couple of “Melody X Liam“. The Italian beautiful queen and boss of the Italian mafia and Ceann na Conairte, the devilish handsome boss of the Irish one. They’re the definition of power couple. I could go on and on talking about these two, but i seriously don’t want to spoil y’all because believe me..this story worth your time! Every. Single. Second & Minute!!!!

J J McAvoy, THANK YOU dearly for such a beautiful series, and looking forward the “Children of Vice” series.

would I recommend it? HELL to the YES!

Have you read it yet? what do you think??

Have a good read 🙂
